The need to focus on productivity, diversification and sustainability has never been more pressing in the boardrooms of food and drink manufacturers across Yorkshire. For the 900 or so companies which make up the sector in the region, the growing food, drink and catering industry in the UK is a huge opportunity; people are eating and drinking more at home and in restaurants, with total spend reaching £198bn.
Yet the recession has put the emphasis on value and manufacturers’ customers are facing massive change. The big supermarkets continue to lose share to discounters and while overall consumption increases, prices fall in real terms.
A net increase of 2,000 registered businesses in the UK food sector in 2014 shows the true scale of the challenge; a crowded but growing market, where price, value and quality are paramount, creates opportunities and challenges in equal measure.
This Business Insider breakfast will examine how the focus on productivity, diversification and sustainability can help food and drink manufacturers remain competitive by reducing costs, creating new revenue streams and building long-term partnerships.
BioVale is sponsoring this event in order to stimulate discussion on opportunities to create new, often high-value, revenue streams from food waste.
